Unseen

Michelle Kloehn is a tintype and ambrotype artist, old photographic techniques that she uses to create elusive visions suspended between abstraction and the images of the photograms, with faint traces of familiar objects appearing here and there.
Often alternative techniques today are used to show familiar things through the magical looking glass of their old scratched surfaces, varnish of a distant time that does not really belong to the images. Her plates simply collect unrecognizable fragments of places and moments we cannot remember, neither past nor future.

Michelle Kloehn è un'artista che utilizza la ferrotipia e l'ambrotipia, antiche tecniche fotografiche con cui crea delle visioni sfuggenti, in bilico tra l'astrazione e il ricordo delle forme create con i fotogrammi (quelli che comunemente vengono chiamati rayogrammi), con deboli tracce di oggetti familiari disseminate tra le immagini.
Spesso le cosiddette tecniche alternative vengono utilizzate in fotografia per mostrarci ciò che conosciamo attraverso il filtro magico di superfici graffiate, piene di sapienti imperfezioni, nobile vernice di un'antichità che non appartiene realmente alle immagini: qui al contrario raccolgono frammenti irriconoscibili, luoghi e momenti che non possiamo ricordare, tempo che non fa distinzione tra passato e futuro.
