Per chi non li conoscesse ancora, segnaliamo la staged photography dei fratelli Carlos e Jason Sanchez (anche qui), set up estremamente sofisticati dove si respira una forte aria di alienazione, critica al conformismo borghese e una considerevole dose di paura e disgusto, ma miscelati come se Gregory Crewdson avesse visto qualche film in più di Luis Buñuel.
Molte delle loro scene hanno proprio quell’humour nero che manca completamente nei grandi tableaux a colori del re dei fotogrammi cinematografici fine-art, dove di conseguenza spesso il senso viene confinato un po’ troppo verso l’equazione esistenziale ‘villetta familiare = apatia’.

For those who might not know them yet, here’s the staged photography by the Sanchez brothers (also here), Carlos & Jason: extremely sophisticated set-ups, where you can feel a strong mix of alienation, middle-class conformism and a considerable amount of fear & loathing, blended as if Gregory Crewdson had seen a few more movies by Luis Buñuel.
Many of their scenes have the very dark humor missing from the huge color tableaux by the king of the fine-art movie stills, and where, by consequence, the sum of it all is often a bit too much confined to the equation ‘single-family home = apathy’.
