Tempo e luogo

© Andrew Phelps

The images by Andrew Phelps often deal with the past and its more or less confused manifestations inside the spaces of the present time, as if he would represent their dialogue (or their conflict): a town eating away another one, old set decorations not letting us realize where we really are, cow-boys not coming where we would expect to see them.

“The Landscape, as we have come to recognize and expect it, is seldom seen.“

P.S. Both Phelps’website and the one by Edgar Martins above show the images in a format so small you can hardly watch them: is this a message? Leave the jpeg reproductions, watch the books, go to exhibitions,
get real?
We agree and understand, even if a more consistent taste of their work would have been appreciated.
